This annual event benefits the Georgia Sheriffs' Youth Homes. The sheriff's office is so grateful for all who participate, for those who purchase hole sponsorships and for those that donate to the Youth Homes. In 2023 this event raised over $22,000 for the children of the youth homes.
This event took place for the first time in June 2023. During the Academy students ages 10-11 were visited each day by different public safety agencies and learned about each agency's job descriptions. The students were able to tour the Sheriff's Office, Jail, Courthouse Complex and the Fire Training Center. They participated in a golf cart driving course while wearing goggles that simulate impairment and "qualify" with airsoft handguns while learning the importance of firearms safety.
The main purpose of the academy is to show students how each agency partners with each other to accomplish the same goal. That is, to serve and protect the citizens of Jackson County.
This annual event takes place in October and benefits the Georgia Sheriffs' Youth Homes. Jeeps from all over meet in Jefferson and take a 70 mile scenic trip to Nichols Campground on the Tallulah River in Rabun County. Once at the campground there is a raffle, food, fun and fellowship. It is a great event for great cause.
