Major Steve Smith receives Jackson County
Area Chamber of Commerce Hometown Hero Medal of Merit Award
Merit is defined as “the quality of being particularly good or worthy, especially so as to deserve praise or reward”. This definition describes Major Steve Smith.
Major Smith has received numerous letters of commendations during his career, with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, for his professionalism and willingness to go above and beyond what is required.
In 2016 Steve was promoted to Chief Deputy of the Sheriff’s Office, where he works hand in hand with the Sheriff. He supervises all divisions of the office and jail. He handles all personnel issues, lawsuits, to include inmate lawsuits concerning the jail and any other issues that may arise. He also deals with the budget and the daily operations of the Sheriff’s Office. He continues to supervise the evidence also.
He stepped into this huge job as Chief Deputy and has shown he can manage any situation. Major Steve Smith is very worthy to have received the Medal of Merit Award for his tireless work, not only for the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office but for the people of Jackson County.
